ADMISSIONS POLICIES

  1. Sprott Shaw Language College (SSLC) welcomes applications from students who can add to the inspirational and multicultural academic life at our college.
  2. Detailed, accurate information and guidance is offered on our website, in our promotional materials, and through our student advisors, to ensure our potential and current students make informed decisions about their programs. Our admission requirements are well publicized and applied consistently.
  3. Entry Assessment Tools and Admission Requirements ensure students have the required language competencies (see Language Proficiency Assessment Policy), and the basic skills and abilities to achieve program outcomes.
  4. Students are provided with the following policies before entering into a Student Enrollment Contract:

  5. Program & Course Specific Admission Requirements:
    The following admissions requirements are regularly applied by our admissions staff members, Entrance Exam Administrators/ Entrance Interviewers.SSLC requires all students meet the minimum requirements shown below:

    • English as a Second Language for Adults (ESL –Adults, SC Skill Combined or SF Skill Focused) and / or ESL for Children and Teens:
      No Requirements (students complete a level test & oral interview on the first day of classes to determine levels and preference of ESL-SF Skill Focused or ESL-SC Skill Combined morning schedule)
    • TOEFL® Test Prep:TOEFL iBT® 45-46, TOEIC® 550, IELTS 4.5, completed SSLC Level 3, any recognized international English language equivalency test score or a pass on our Entrance Exam. No interview required.
    • International English Language Testing System (IELTS):TOEFL iBT® 40, TOEIC® 470, IELTS 3.5, completed SSLC Level 2, any recognized international English language equivalency test score or a pass on our Entrance Exam. No interview required.
    • Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE):TOEFL iBT® 61, TOEIC® 650, IELTS 5.5, completed SSLC Level 4, any recognized international English language equivalency test score or a pass on our Entrance Exam. No interview required.
    • Business English (BE):TOEFL iBT® 45-46, TOEIC® 550, IELTS 4.5, completed SSLC Level 3, any recognized international English language equivalency test score or a pass on our Entrance Exam. No interview required.
    • Powerspeaking & Modern Media (PMM):TOEFL iBT® 45-46, TOEIC® 550, IELTS 4.5, completed SSLC Level 3, any recognized international English language equivalency test score or a pass on our Entrance Exam. No interview required.
    • Intermediate English for Post-Secondary Education (IEPE):TOEFL iBT® 45-46, TOEIC® 550, IELTS 4.5 with a 4.5 in Writing, completed SSLC Level 3, any recognized international English language equivalency test score or a pass on our Entrance Exam. Interview required.
    • English for Post-Secondary Education (EPE):TOEFL iBT® 61, TOEIC® 650, IELTS 5.5 with a 5.5 in Writing, completed SSLC Level 4, any recognized international English language equivalency test score or a pass on our Entrance Exam. Interview required.
  6. Proof of the minimum English language requirement shall not be older than one (1) year.
  7. Admission requirements may not be waived by the student or SSLC.
  8. All changes to the minimum admission requirements shall be communicated clearly and in writing to all parties concerned, both internal and external. A grace period of three months shall apply between announcement of the changes and their actual implementation.
  9. Should a student fail the Entrance Exam or Entrance Interview, he/she may not retake it again until a period of three weeks has passed. This three-week period may only be waived at the Director’s discretion.
  10. A copy of all Entrance Exam and Entrance Interview Results (if applicable) shall be kept in the student’s file.
